4-week program on holistic approach to masterplanning and architecture design.
This innovative programme was delivered in July 2019 in Moscow to a group of architecture students from the Design and Architecture Academies of Moscow. The aim was to encourage students to think differently about architecture and the concept of “home” and to reflect on the sacred interconnectivity between Humans, Culture and Nature.
Students were asked to design homes that worked in harmony with a desert environment, taking a holistic approach, using sustainable materials and techniques. They were asked to research and then design a solution for the desert and then to prototype some of the ideas.
The program was co-facilitated by Mikheil Pitskhelauri (Associate Professor and lecturer in the development of human consciousness), CXEMA Architects and Arturo Vittori.
The immersion into the world of Caravane was gradual — and entirely magical. Magic is the only word to describe it. During my time working with Caravane, I have developed an entirely new perspective, not only in regard to architecture and design, but also, it would seem, to the world around me.
We are designing a magical city in the desert, without any computers, all by hand. This is such an important experience for me following a rather hopeless academic process, in order to reawaken my intuition, and remember dreams about how we could all live together….I feel that within the team, we have managed to establish a process of co-creation and receptivity that will envelop also the residents of the village.
With Caravane, I really like the idea that people arrive at a place practically untouched by human hands, live there for a little while, create something, and then depart, not leaving anything behind. In this, care for people and the place becomes evident. And I would like to create such a relationship to a place.
